BLOGS, TROLLS, HITS & VISITS

Many could easily find and read recently that there are "conversations" ongoing about debating, fighting, waste of time, rudeness, and so on at mutliple blogs. Perhaps we are seeing the blog evolution? I don't know.

I have read many that have written and have come to only one common sense conclusion......

I think..."There are some very popular blogs that deliberately create conflict in order to generate greater page views and posted comments."

Other than ego and pocket change...I seek other ideas.... I don't see myself as having a dog in this fight so am very open to many.

Some of the writers are clearly bright people that can easily see mulitple sides to a given topic. Some that are accused of being guilty of TROLL type crimes have said that their positions could just as easily have been authored by their opponent. Others believe this to be political and therefore right or left defines the allies/enemies. Both sides are smart and therefore are above the level of stupidity needed to fully understand the opposing side.

Can the owner of a blog be a TROLL at his own blog? I think so. Why would the blog owner do this? Again....greater quantity of hits and visits....I guess.

I think in some instances you might be right. I'd add that while I'm not talking about the particular bloggers you're not actually referencing, I believe some even go so far as to post comments to their own blogs while using other names-- hence the "sign in as a different user" setting on blogger/blogspot and others.

Personally I don't mind trolls as long as they're well behaved trolls but a naughty troll really gets my goat.

I had not thought about someone posting to their own blog. That is interesting. It would be interesting to see if there are posters that have only posted on one blog.

I am not certain that I fully understand what a troll is in the blogging world. Are we all trolls at one time or another?

I assume it to be someone who posts only to argue or change subjects over and over without ever moderating. Is this correct?

You may well be right, meb.

Page hits, rankings and other statistical measurements are important to some blog owners for a variety of reasons.

On the other hand, there are those of us who don't care about such things, and blog simply because we have something to say.

If your theory is true, those other blog owners are intellectually dishonest.

Would we really be surprised to find out that's true?

You're a smart guy, MeB. I knew you'd figure it out on your own.

I've been away for a few days, and came back to peruse the thread I know you're referencing (one I exited early because I am done with the bait and cone game).

What I found was inspiration for a future blog post.

As I told another blogger in private correpsondence fairly recently, all of the snarkery and name-calling (i.e. "Batshit crazy", "chickenshit", "bullshit") . . . all of the set-ups and baiting . . . all of the gang-ups . . . mouthing off and insulting those that give this self (and newspaper) appointed "leader" the debating points he needs to keep his threads going (often posted by people who dare to stand for something) and the hits up . . . is going to backfire. I think it already has. I don't think I'm going to be back anytime soon.

He's becoming GSO's version of John Kerry.

If it is true then those blog owners should be "OUTED"... :-) I have little interest in posting if the other party has no sincere interest in the subject or has an alternate reason for their response...example being to have a more popular blog.

For the most part I post to agree, compliment, disagree, and to learn.
In no way am I perfect...I make mistakes every day. I am 100% ok in almost all cases to agree to disagree.

I still find it unbelievable that some blog owners and posters can not see the other's side and refuse or ignore any level of compromise.

I found it interesting and somewhat disturbing in recent days when I was reading and noting that the blog owner and poster could have authored each other's positions and no one other than they would have known the difference.

The trigger for me was when one of the posters involved offered the same observation which was gratifying that I was not the only one seeing the weirdness of it all.
I thought it was a great compliment to the poster for him to see the same. He demonstrated that he could see both sides.

When other bloggers brought trolls into the thread I found myself curious as to if a blog owner can be a troll? I think so....grin.

I further found it irritating to read some of the older bloggers saying stuff like--- ...I guess we were wrong that talking them into getting their own blogs would fix the problem... I don't see any other way to see this than condescending and down outright nasty.

Uh, that would be me. About 18 months ago I ascended to King of Trolls around here. My reign was evil and much harm was done by me.

There are better things to do than vex Lex. And I grew tired of being Coned. But, your point is made re the double standard.

Fec, I must have caught the tail-end of your reign.

Given the professional demons I have wrestled in recent years (alongside the personal ones ), your "whack job" comment (once upon a time at JR's) did much harm.

As I recall, another "leader" of the GSO blogosphere jumped on that bandwagon.

But I bounced back. I'm one of the newbies-deemed-trolls-after-being-sucked-into-the-blogosphere-by-the-misrepresentations-of-the-N&R that formed my own blog. And you're right. There are better things to do. Plus the conings are tiresome.

I know that it would perhaps be redundant but it would be great to hear from some other blog owners and bloggers that believe that this post is about you....drumroll......(some have already hinted at your names...please come out and engage) It might do all of us much good to resolve some of the issues at hand.

The good news is that we are not off topic to some thread about politics or some other "can't wait to get back to topic" and so far no one has reduced us to a pycho-babble debate.

Pure poetry = "I'm not talking about the particular bloggers you're not actually referencing"
(that is simply brilliant :-) )

Fec, I find your postings very interesting....or at least the ones that I can understand ...grin...compliment intended

I had a comment to make to this post, but it just got entirely too huge. So I posted it on my site: http://triadblogs.com/BrendaFayBowers As I seem to have gained a reputation of late as being a straight shooter you may want to read it. Or, you may not. Love ya all, Brenda

I have made this post known at a couple of other sites....and I am surprised that some names have not shown up without or with gloves on to find real growth....makes no sense to me unless the loudest like it the way that it is and enjoy complaining.....dunno....weird.

The reality is that I am not overly surprised....

Like Bubba said..."If your theory is true, those other blog owners are intellectually dishonest."

Ok other blog owners..show up and find a better direction for Greensboro and blogging or be what you are....sigh..."intellectually dishonest"
